In a recent digital ranking of 32 major cities in Germany by c't, the magazine for computer technology (Heise Medien GmbH & Co. KG), the City of Bonn took third place. This makes it the leader in North Rhine-Westphalia and, together with Nuremberg and Munich, one of the pioneers.
"The good performance in the ranking encourages us on our path of digital transformation. Digitalization is one of our four strategic priorities, because the progress we make as a city administration in terms of the number and quality of online services directly benefits the people of Bonn. That is why we will continue to gradually expand our digital services."
Local authorities are responsible for the majority of administrative services in Germany. In light of the Online Access Act, c't compared the range of online applications in 32 cities and compiled a list of 15 administrative services that are particularly relevant for citizens: from resident parking permits to driving licenses and vehicle registration to housing registration. The 25 largest German cities plus seven state capitals were examined. For the c't ranking (see also https://www.heise.de/hintergrund/Digitalisierung-der-Verwaltung-32-Staedte-im-c-t-Ranking-7465640.html (opens in a new tab) ), one point was awarded in each case if the relevant service can be applied for using an online form.
Of the 15 services included in the comparison, 12 can be processed online in Bonn. For example, the city administration offers the following services digitally: resident parking permit, driver's license exchange, library registration, pre-registration for kindergarten and housing benefit application.
