Cities are calling for a broad social debate on the use of data and fair rules for the future-oriented handling of municipal data. To this end, the Association of German Cities published the study "Shaping the city of the future with data" together with PD- Berater der öffentlichen Hand GmbH.

Helmut Dedy, Chief Executive of the Association of German Cities, emphasized: " Especially in the current pandemic, we see how much good decisions depend on good data. If we use municipal data wisely today, we create added value for tomorrow. In cities, the topic of data must be the responsibility of the bosses."

Assistance with the procurement of IT applications

The study presents various fields of action and provides specific recommendations for action in the diverse areas of municipal data use. It is based on the experiences of selected experts from the member cities of the Association of German Cities.

The cities of Bonn and Münster have further developed a sample burden booklet for IT procurements, which provides practical assistance for the design of service specifications and contractual regulations before the start of awarding contracts.
