We take you to the newly installed smart moisture sensors for young trees. They were installed in a new development area in the Geislar district of Bonn-Beuel in spring and are now being tested! The installation of the moisture sensors serves as a pilot project in terms of intelligent irrigation technology in municipal young tree care. By monitoring the transmitted data, we expect to gain insights that will enable a more efficient and needs-based use of the valuable resource of water against the backdrop of climate change. With a view to the optimal development of the tree, this project is to be designed in a cost-saving manner in future with well-organized personnel deployment.

Data transmission is particularly energy-efficient thanks to LoRaWan technology. At the same time, we are testing various tree substrates for their water retention capacity, among other things, in order to achieve the best possible conditions for good tree vitality at this level too in the future. The financial investment in this project is thus being utilized in the best possible way and is future-oriented in all directions.
