Since the end of September 2023, Bonn residents have been able to register, re-register or deregister vehicles online. You no longer have to visit the registration office in person. Another advantage: digital registration costs slightly less than on-site registration.
The new online service applies to vehicles registered after January 1, 2015. The online form and further information, such as which documents must be submitted and which requirements must be met, can be found on the municipal service portal https://service.bonn.de/ (opens in a new tab) under the title " Kfz anmelden, ummelden, abmelden (i-Kfz) (opens in a new tab)".
To be able to identify themselves for registrations and re-registrations, citizens need a user account with BundID, an identity card or electronic residence permit (eAT) with activated eID function including a six-digit PIN and a smartphone with free "AusweisApp2", or alternatively a card reader. Deregistration is possible without identification. Important: The NRW service account otherwise required to use the municipal service portal is not necessary for this application.
Following the online procedure, a provisional registration certificate is provided for download. This must be clearly visible in the vehicle until the other documents and stickers are delivered by post.
The lower fees for the online procedure are also attractive: at a minimum of 5.32 euros, for example, digital deregistration is significantly cheaper than on-site deregistration (minimum 16.80 euros). The basic fee for a new digital registration is 19.52 euros (compared to 30 euros on site) and 16.32 euros for a digital re-registration (instead of 30 euros).
